Watchdog calls for end to state laws criminalizing gender, sexual identity
KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 — Malaysian laws criminalising activities like cross-dressing has led to increased discrimination and violence against transgenders and those of different sexual identities and orientations, an international human rights watchdog said.
In its latest report to the United Nations committee on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) on Malaysia released Wednesday, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) noted that attacks against these peoples, especially trans women, have become increasingly brutal.
It highlighted the February murder of a trans woman named Sameera in Kuantan, Pahang whose body was also mutilated as a recent example of the growing phobia taking against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in the country.
The organisation further noted the increased frequency of state-sanctioned raids, arrests and prosecution of transgenders who are subjected to rough treatment under detention, and added that these have far-reaching socio-economic repercussions.
“Discrimination against transgender women in education, employment, and health care is common.
“Criminalization combined with discrimination causes transgender women to avoid public health facilities, inhibiting the HIV response in a country in which HIV prevalence among transgender people is estimated at 5.6 per cent, compared to 0.4 per cent among the general population,” HRW said in the report.
In a list of recommendations, the watchdog urged the UN committee to pressure Malaysia to revise state Shariah enactments banning cross-dressing and to call for a halt to state-sanctioned raids against transsexuals, as well as to abolish laws prohibiting consensual homosexual relationships.
HRW also urged enacting an all-encompassing anti-discrimination law banning discrimination based on gender identities, gender expression and sexual orientation as well as a stop to “conversion therapy” that forces a person to change his or her sexual identity.
“Establish a legal gender recognition procedure that allows transgender people to change their names and the gender markers on their identity cards, based on self-declaration, without requiring medical or psychiatric intervention, ensure that HIV prevention efforts targeting transgender people and other key populations are inclusive and non-judgmental.
“Prohibit governmental use or endorsement of conversion therapy to try to change the gender identity or sexual orientation of LGBT people,” HRW said in its seven-point solution recommendation.
In its submission to CEDAW, HRW also focused on several other issues in Malaysia, such as child marriage, marital rape, foreign domestic workers, and education.
The report related to Articles 1, 2, 6, 10, 11, 12, 15, and 16 of the CEDAW, which Malaysia ratified in 1995, but with reservations.

ageist / hierachy / life

...

This is an advice to myself also whoever feels the same way. Stop being ageist or when you feel like you reach a certain age and think have experience a lot in life. Don't. Life is like river flowing and you're just an empty bottle or container floating about and only experience certain things when you fill up your space but in order to learn new things you also have to spill out the (air yang dah berkeladak dan tepu dlm tu) old water in order to refill with new experience. So….note to self….before the thought becoming materialize….(even though one can enjoy the pride of achieving something in life) stop being ageist..life is the big river everflowing and you're the container floating about drifting in river of life and can only take in some amount and spill it out in order to learn or experience new things.

The root of thoughts above is from some flashback memories of few person i encounter in life that somehow subtly demand to be respected because of age and whatever the hardship they encounter. I don't deny their or my own experience but its just a self reminder too that i shouldn't do that when i met a younger person who may have a different experience in a field that i'm not in as well...

  • Insects use an XO sex determination system, while birds use the ZW system.
  • A reptile’s sex is at least partly determined by the temperature in which the egg develops.
  • Flatworms transfer sperm through a process called penis fencing (which is described in graphic detail here).
  • In clownfish colonies, dominance is based on size, the female being the largest and the male being the second largest. If the female dies, the male gains weight and becomes the female for that group.
  • Other fish species take on female attributes while mating, and they release sperm in the process.
  • Fungi like molds and mushrooms have 36,000 sexes.
Humans also exhibit the wide range of sexual behaviors Grace discusses:
  • 5-alpha-reductase deficiency is a real (albeit rare) condition, in which young women grow a penis during puberty.
  • Androgen insensitivity syndrome is an intersex condition in which a person who is genetically male is resistant to male hormones . As a result, the person has some or all of the physical traits of a woman, but the genetic makeup of a man.
  • The SRY gene is involved in male sexual development—without it fetuses can be genetically male (with XY chromosomes) but have a female body. The same is true in females (with XX chromosomes), who can develop a male body without the SRY gene.
  • XXY males are sterile, with small testes—while women with only one X chromosome (a condition called Turner syndrome) are infertile and don’t go through puberty. Males with two X chromosomes (called Klinefelter syndrome) are taller, with a higher risk of breast cancer and osteoporosis.

Sol invictus 1

The story is i was watching how few people using solar panels to melt rocks into larva on youtube. Then one day i was at Tiger (flyingtiger dot com) in Helsinki and saw a magnifying glass but it was a plastic version for reading because its dirt cheap around 1€. I tried to draw using it on paper but it was dissapointed because i was waiting for quite a long time to make it burn, so no plastic. Then i went to the local flee market and saw a magnifying glass around 11cm diameter and was selling at 5€, i tested it on the spot on my sketchbook and it burns less than 10 seconds. I created a hole in the sketchbook and the sun was around 12 noon-ish. And i bought it and brought it back home and try to draw the next day...and then i open youtube to look for other artists who's doing the same thing and found so far 2 artists who upload their videos using sun to draw. So yeah. It was already done but of course the subject matter is different. So its up to the artist and its a free energy. Use it before some galactic corporations take it away from us.
