Not too long ago, i remember accompanied Kajol to ChowKit and visited an elderly Kelantanese maknyah who's living in one of the *tangga (Staircase). She was a bit sick and greeted us and keep apologizing for the messy room. I keep saying its ok, thanks for having us. She's living there for ages. And she got diabetes. After i sit my ass down and introducing myself, she kept saying i look like matsalleh (white foreigner), i get that a lot from other people I'm not sure how to react every time i hear that, and the first thing she utters when she saw me, "Bila nak terbang lagi?"
"When are you going to fly away?"…the word echoes loud and last quite long, whatever she said after that just becoming blur and fade away quite quickly. "Kenapa tak terbang lagi?" keep echoing in my mind till we get back to the car and even until now the sound bit glued to my maambrane….
for us its quite normal to discuss about leaving the country, migrate, seek asylum, many have sacrifice their friends and families,...i thought some of the pioneer maknyah who's already settled down else where outside the country in Australia, U.S., Europe,...they're already build their life outside there, and wonder if the fate of the maknyah here, do they still have the desire...
many just left the country looking for greener pastures, having their own family, living with their partners without having to think too much about the risks being in a public spaces, violence, etc....... "Bila nak terbang lagi?" sounds more like when is your time to leave for the greener pastures...
