This post is about yesterday's film screening or what they call it Kunitachi Queer film fest.

-"Kokodenaidokoka" : (Director Nakagawa Ayumi 2010/64 minutes / English subtitles)
-"Living as a woman/Transgender Troubles" (Director: Ebata KaoruNozomi 2011/100 minutes / English subtitles)

So yesterday after some preparations before the film screening, displaying some of my illustrations on trans issues, we get to see the 2 films which is for me very, very interesting. I wish all my LGBTIQXYZ friends from PTFoundation, Seksualiti Merdeka, ATP, Ganda Filipina,etc,etc, are here with me watching the films.

Kokodenaidokoka is about an everyday life of a gay person in Japan. The director of the 2 films have a same approach following their subject matter around and its like we're watching their private lives up close, very personal, about their relationship with their love ones, family, and their interaction with society. I was surprised to see the person or actor first hand when he came to attend the screening and then watching his private lives televised right in front of our eyes. When they ask me about the films, i just said in malaisea its a bit impossible to do this and screen it in public without some security measures of the doors kicked down by the authority or religious police. But i thanked him for being so brave to have sharing with us part of his life.

Living as a woman or another title is Transgender trouble is also like the previous film, the film director following her subject matter around with a handheld camera and what i like about this film is the conversation between the person recorded and their thoughts and ideas on gender, sexuality,society,and other things often discussed within the transgender community. I find it very interesting as well that every country transgender struggles on health issues, passing issues, sexuality issues, gender issues are some of the similar things and there are also some differences. It looks like in Japan, the non-hetero people are all bundled up and labeled sexual minorities and i was told these 2 groups don't mix so much. Like in the Philippines, where non-hetero-normatives are bundled up and often called 'Bakla' which is a derogatory word equivalent to the word 'pondan' in malaisea. But i think in malaisea non-heteronormatives blended in with heteronormatives people quite well despite the divisions in class,race,economy, religion, ideologies etc...ah ok, too long but the 2 films are well recommended. The issues are too familiar and might not be that different from other Asean countries.

Oh for the artwork display during the film fest, l learn how to print stuff from the thumb drive at 711.  Very 'konbini' indeed.

Let's see if we can come up with some answers together about our own sexual identities.

A different workplace, another home .... 27-year-old Ryo wants to be anywhere but where he finds himself at the moment. This documentary depicts the rough life of a young man in relationships with other men in Tokyo. We follow him through the ups and downs of his life, breaking up with his live-in boyfriend, finding a job that brings him closer to his dream of being a fashion designer, fighting with his mom, attending the Pride Parade, and other scenes of his daily life. The work invites us to reflect on the state of Japan in a world in which an increase in the rights of sexual minorities has resulted in the ability to marry in more than 15 countries.

In Japan, transvestites, transgendered people, and those with Gender Identity Disorder are treated as outcasts, used for entertainment, and are regularly shown in appalling stereotypes on television and in the media. Their reality in fact represents a vast and not easily definable range of experiences and existences. The director of this documentary, herself transgendered, focuses her camera's gaze specifically on the performers in a 'New Half' (Shemale) cabaret show in Tokyo. "Trans* persons have long been important figures in the landscape of the Malay archipelago. In the 19^thcentury, the manang bali or Iban shamans who dressed as women were respectable curers and local leaders. Right up to the 20^th century in the archipelago, many transwomen were royal courtiers. Transwomen village performers were also favourably treated by the Sultan of the state of Kelantan in the 1960s. Such amenable attitudes towards transwomen underwent a change from the 1970s onwards, notably due to the expanding Islamisation of Malaysia. In 1983, the Malaysian Conference of Rulers declared a fatwa against cross-dressing and genital reconstruction surgery (GRS). This was a reaction from the Malay monarchy towards former premier Mahathir Mohamad, who challenged their traditional authority on various levels. As this systematic religio-political rejection of the personhoods of mak nyahs persists to this day in numerous circles, many Malaysian transwomen find it near impossible to secure gainful employment and some resort to sex work. This, in turn, places many of them at great risk of exposure to HIV and other sexually-transmitted infections."

recently i started to map my thoughts every morning after a coffee and pandesal, i think thoughts are like electrical surge or the nature of thoughts sometimes they linger for a bit, sometimes they pass rapidly, so i started to exercise and put down, capture some of it and try to put down on paper, some are half bake thoughts or ideas that's still need fermenting, some are quite there but need some extra cherry on top. After a few days i think its a good workout to record some of it down, because probably some old ideas few days just need some finishing touch today, to see the big picture or if if its there or not

Some thoughts on drawings /art 

-Drawing is the first self-expression of being human besides crying, laughing, when we're young. We draw because human have eyes. Like mouth who consume food then we poop, For eyes i think its quite the same, we consume but we seldom empty the eyes bowels. An i think its healthy to let it out and feel good because drawing is very therapeutic and a person should do it often to get the hang of it. Imagine learn how to draw is like learn how to cycle. After you get the hang of it, it will bring you very far to unimaginable places.

Beehive collective

Yesterday, attended the Beehive collective talk at UP center of fine arts. Felt lucky to be here and attend the talk. Some friends gave me the colletive G8 poster from Japan few years back and suddenly i never expected to witness and come across this event, 1 of the member coming here in Philippines and giving her talk about the process of the artwork and also the story behind the struggle of the South American natives through the highly detailed art/illustrations. Mostly about their struggles against big corporations and the world capitalistic system that destroy the environment today. It took 9 years for them to put together and print it big like a mini billboard size. Just happy to be here.

just for fun, some 80s induced graphics/colors to the current 30 second drawing workshop ideas

last saturday (4 Jan) was extremely fun organizing the 30 sec drawing workshop with 98B, actually its more like an experiment. What 22 people can come up with within 30 seconds with pen/markers and paper, i think i mention to the participants that if you concentrate hard you can have an eternity in 1 second lol >.<',
But what i like about it was the participation. Everyone was 101% paying attention to most instructions on what to draw for 30 seconds which consists of 30 lists. I'm happy to see all of them laughing and comparing at each others drawings i feel like a kindergarten teacher because the participants even though grown up they look like children totally immersed with the activity. Everyone can interpret 1 thing into may different things and within 30 second can bring out the Picasso in them. Some drawings can even be turn into logo design, simple and catchy. In the list to draw, its not just a simple subject as well, what i told them to draw is a metaphor of the world we are living now. But mostly fun to interpret in many, many type of style....its the happiness that i see in them that made me happy, i feel like i'm not just bring out the Picasso in them but also the innocent child within them. The whole room feels like a kindergarten classroom where everyone's totally tuned in while rocking the pen to 30 seconds-ish punrock songs. It was extremely fun. The feedback i get as well was they had a lot of fun doing it. I forget to tell them they actually can exercise this at home as well and i forgot to give them the lists of the songs. Fun like a Hor Fun. Can't wait to do it when i'm back in KL. This is the description from one of the partipants: "a topic is given - some time given to think about it - then Sheiko counts 1,2,3, go and a punk song lasting 30 seconds play - by the end of the song pens are put down.
Somewhat similar to party games like stop dancing and trip to Jerusalem :) "
